As I sit back and admire the sleek lines of my RetroPie, I can't help but reflect on the incredible journey I've embarked on over the past few weeks. Building this arcade system has been an exhilarating experience, filled with moments of joy, frustration, and ultimately, personal growth. One of the aspects I enjoyed most about this project was the opportunity to unleash my creativity. From picking out which case to use to selecting the perfect retro games to include, every decision allowed me to express myself and bring my vision to life. I felt a sense of pride knowing that I was building something tangible with my own hands. Of course, no project is without its challenges, and building the RetroPie arcade was no exception. One of the biggest hurdles I faced was troubleshooting technical issues along the way and not actually being able to build a cabinet. From configuring the RetroPie software to troubleshooting controller connectivity problems, there were moments when I fe...

The Pi, the controllers, the games....

After researching and planning, the first step was to gather all the necessary components to build my Retro Pie. My journey began and ended on Amazon, my one stop shop for everything Retro Pie. First wsa the most important part, the Raspberry Pi and Essential parts to make it work. The heart of the Retro Pie, the Raspberry Pi, was swiftly added to my cart. Alongside it were all the accessories like a power supply, microSD card,HDMI cord and a sleek case. Then the controllers for the Nostalgic Feel, a set of USB game controllers, reminiscent of the classic SNES controllers, were crucial to preserving the nostalgic feel i was looking for. Searching for Games is where my challenge begins. Unlike other components, games for Retro Pi aren't readily available on Amazon. The quest for a comprehensive collection of retro game ROMs has become a digital scavenger hunt. Stay tuned to see what I can find. With all the phyiscal elements in my possession, the next phase involves assembling t...

woah, this is getting heavy doc...

The idea of having an arcade with Street Fighter, Mario Kart, and Sonic feels like stepping into the DeLorean with Doc, back to a time when games were simple. Almost before I even started, I hit my first snag, the challenge of crafting the arcade cabinet itself. Woodworking, painting, and electrical work don't sound too hard with my skillset, but what I lack the most these days is time. Working 60 hours a week and doing a full university course load means I might not have time for this, so I might have to scale this down a bit. The software was a bit easier; after a little bit of research, I settled on Retro Pi software over Lakka software. Retro Pie is a bit more user-friendly, has a straightforward install process, and the interface seems easier to navigate. It also boasts a large active community with extensive documentation, tutorials, and forums that make it easy for users to find solutions to common issues. The main thing I found was that Retro Pi's setup process was mo...

My Retro Gaming dream: Creating the Ultimate 90s Arcade

Hello Retro Gamers-o! Welcome to my project of nostalgia! Where the 24 bit memories of the 90s come back to life! I'm thrilled to start on an exciting journey of creating the ultimate arcade experience, complete with all the beloved games that defined my childhood. The burning questions on my mind throughout the years was "could I do this? is this hard?" but the bigger question that I have been asking this past week is "What are the steps I should take to successfully create an arcade with ALL my 90s games on it to make this dream, a reality?" For me, It's not just about gaming, it's a tribute to an era that holds a special place in my heart. This would allow me to enjoy a vast library of classic games from systems like NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis... all in one compact, customizable system. The prospect of recreating the magic of the arcades of my childhood in the comfort of my home, is simply irresistible. As I dive into this project, I hope to dis...
